Where it begins
Every rug starts in a place most people will never visit.
Deep in the Atlas Mountains. Villages without main roads. Workshops lit by daylight, where the tradition of hand-knotting pure wool has been passed down for generations. That is where I go. That is where I choose.
No intermediaries. No showroom. No catalogue sent by WhatsApp from Casablanca.
I sit with the makers. I touch the wool. I look at the density of the knots, the weight of the piece, the way the pattern holds from edge to edge. Most pieces I walk past. A few I bring back.
Those are the ones that become Volzar.

The loom is the beginning of everything
The artisans who make these rugs don’t work from catalogues. They work from memory. Patterns passed down through families, motifs that carry meaning beyond decoration. A diamond is not just a shape. A color is not chosen at random.
Christophe visits these places directly. Khénifra, Middle Atlas. No agent. No intermediary. He sits with the makers, touches the wool before it becomes a rug, and selects only what is worth bringing back.
Most pieces he walks past. A few make it.
Those are the only ones you will ever find at Volzar.
